Robin Smith

After completing a BSc (Hons) degree in Biological Imaging, Robin began his career in wildlife filmmaking in 1999. His first break was as camera assistant on Survival Anglia’s film Hunt For the Red Whale and since then his career as a wildlife cameraman has gone from strength to strength.

Robin has worked his way around the world, filming in locations as diverse as the Siberian Arctic, the Kalahari Desert and the forests of Papua New Guinea. Recent credits include Meerkat Manor for which he was Emmy nominated for Outstanding Cinematography, and the wildlife feature film Meerkat Manor: The Story Begins. Other work includes the BBC Natural World’s Mountains of the Monsoon, Crocodile Blues and Birds of Paradise as well as Lost Land of the Volcano and the BBC NHU series Life.

Robin latest film, One Million Snakebites, which he filmed and produced, was broadcast last year on BBC2 as part of the Natural World strand.  It investigates India’s current snake bite epidemic and snake expert Romulus Whittaker’s work to find solutions to the problem.
